Upcoming events for 2019
Following on from the success of the inaugural Dam Dash, we are running the Dam Dash 2 on 14 April 2019. This will be a similar race, however, in a different part of the dam grounds and of 4 hour duration. If you are just starting out in Adventure/Navigation Racing; looking for a competitive training race (only a few weeks before Rogue 100); or simply looking for a new challenge, then this event is for you.
The race is of a rogaine style format where teams of 2 race against the clock to collect as many checkpoints as possible within the allotted 4 hour race duration. One hour before the race, teams will be handed a map of the area showing where checkpoints are located to create a strategy on which checkpoints to collect. The more checkpoints you collect, the more points you will get. The first team back may not be the eventual winner (unless they successfully clear the course). Penalties will be accrued if you arrive back late.
Some checkpoints are worth more than others so you will need to use a bit of strategy.
Race against friends, the kids or workmates. Minimum age of participants is 10 years old, provided they are racing with a parent. Categories will be Mixed, Men, Womens and Family.
Navigation will be of an easy standard. If you can read a street map, and know which way north is, then you will be able to read the race map.
This year we will be conducting two races, which are mostly off-road. However, these races are readily achievable by beginners (we generally have about 50% first timers in our races), and will have some challenges for experienced racers. We are in planning stages for the second race, but we are looking at a location in the southern Hinterland area in August. Race and location information will be updated as we get further into the planning process.
