DARRYN

Darryn is a qualified geotechnical engineer, having gained a Bachelor of Engineering (Geological) at RMIT in Melbourne.  Since graduating in 1991, Darryn has worked as a geotechnical engineer on the Sunshine Coast.  His projects included managing geological surveys in remote areas of Indonesia and PNG, as well as many areas on the Coast and up to Gladstone.

In Melbourne, Darryn played Australian Rules football at a semi-professional level and continued playing when moved to Queensland.  Darryn was a member of the Maroochydore AFL Club premierships during the 1990’s and represented the Sunshine Coast and South Qld in state titles.

After retiring from football due to old age, Darryn has over the last 20 years competed in triathlons up to half-ironman distance, trail running events, and numerous marathons.  Darryn has competed in trail races and mountain bike events, including the 100km Flinders Ranges MTB Epic.  His major running achievements have come from representing the Sunshine Coast Council region in the Senshu International Marathon in Osaka, Japan; numerous top 10 placings at the Rainbow Beach and Wildhorse Mountain trail runs (16km to 23km distances); and a number of top 20 overall placings at the Jetty to Jetty half marathon.  He has also competed locally over many years in the Sunshine Coast cross country series, often placing in his age group.

Over the last few years, Darryn has competed with Fiona as Xcite AR in mountain bike and foot orienteering races, and 3hr to 24hr foot and multi-sport rogaines andadventure races.  Darryn is also an avid stand up paddler and kayaker, having raced the 17km Maroochy River Paddle race over the last few years.

Darryn, together with Fiona, created the idea, design and running of the Brightwater Bash and Twin Waters Urban Adventure Races held in 2017, and in 2018 created the inuagural Dam Dash Adventure Race held at Ewan Maddock Dam.

Darryn brings a wealth of project and risk management experience, together vast experience in racing across a number of disciplines, and has also undertaken accredited first aid training.

FIONA

Fiona runs her own Care Support business specialising in Disability Care.

Fiona has run several half marathons, and urban adventure races, and is in training for the 50km Blackall Ultra trail run.   Fiona has competed in trail races; and mountain bike events, such as the 100km Flinders Ranges MTB Epic.  Over the last few years, Fiona has competed with Darryn as Xcite AR in mountain bike and foot orienteering races, and 3hr to 24hr foot and multi-sport rogaines and adventure races.  Being a keen kayaker, Fiona has also competed in the 17km Maroochy River Paddle race over the last few years.  A particular favourite of Fiona is riding the trails in south New Zealand, recently covering around 300km in four days with the Roxburgh Gorge being a highlight.

Fiona, together with Darryn, created the idea, design and running of the recent Brightwater Bash and Twin Waters Urban Adventure Races held in 2017, and in 2018 created the inaugural Dam Dash Adventure Race held at Ewan Maddock Dam.

Fiona brings real life experience and personal communications, together with experience in racing across a number of disciplines, and has also completed an accredited first aid course.
