Upcoming events for 2021
During 2018 and 2019 Xcite ran the successful Dam Dash adventure races at Ewan Maddock Dam. Due to works being undertaken by Seqwater on the dam, we have had to relocate our major race for 2021. We now have a new venue at the coastal town of Donnybrook located in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area. This will be a similar style race, with kayaking to be conducted in the Pumicestone Passageway water course, and running/mountain biking through urban and bush settings, and pine forestry areas. We have also increased the race duration to 6 hours to allow for the great kayaking areas and the extent of potential mountain biking available.
If you are just starting out in Adventure/Navigation Racing; looking for a competitive training race; or simply looking for a new challenge, then this event is for you.
The race is of a rogaine style format where teams of 2 race against the clock to collect as many checkpoints as possible within the allotted 6 hour race duration. One hour before the race, teams will be handed a map of the area showing where checkpoints are located to create a strategy on which checkpoints to collect. The more checkpoints you collect, the more points you will get. The first team back may not be the eventual winner (unless they successfully clear the course). Penalties will be accrued if you arrive back late.
Some checkpoints are worth more than others so you will need to use a bit of strategy.
Race against friends, the kids or workmates. Minimum age of participants is 12 years old, provided they are racing with a parent. Categories will be Mixed, Men, Womens and Family.
Navigation will be of a relatively easy standard. If you can read a street map, and know which way north is, then you will be able to read the race map.
Following a request by a number of past competitors, we will also be bringing back the Bash (that is, the Brightwater Bash). This was a fun event of 3 hours duration run through urban and bushland settings, and scenic lakes. Further details regarding dates (expected to be around September/October) will be provided soon.
